I made a machine to walk in a circle. Part of its absurdity was the insane amount of time I spent in building each bit by hand. The idea of creating massively labour intensive, handmade kinetic sculptures to perform essentially futile tasks was becoming an obsession. I started building a bigger circle-walker, but it needed a more purposeful futility as its task – the act of simply walking in a circle wasn’t enough.
